Wellness Exams
At Veterinary Care Clinic, we offer and recommend regular wellness exams for all your family pets. We strongly believe in preventive care and regular checkups. Wellness exams, at 6 to 12-month intervals, are your pet’s best opportunity to have minor issues identified before they turn into a major health concern.
Our 4-legged friends tend to be happy campers in our presence and are experts at hiding their pain and illness symptoms. In addition, they age a lot faster than we do. In the past, we thought our pets aged 7 times faster than humans but now, based on new studies, we know that our pets age much faster in the first few years of their lives. For example, based on one 2020 study, the first year of a dog’s life would be equal to 30 years of a human’s life and a 4-year-old dog is similar to a 52-year-old person. Therefore, our pets need to have regular biannual exams to stay on top of the changes that are occurring in their bodies as they age. We believe wellness exams are the most effective way to be sure they stay as healthy as they can for as long as possible.
Contact us today and let us help you start a good foundation for a long and happy life for your family pet.
Preventative Care
We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.
We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.
Puppy and Kitten Care
Congratulations on your new puppy or kitten! This is a very exciting moment which comes with a huge responsibility. You have a lot to look forward to and you want to be sure that your new furry family member gets the best possible care and attention. A strong and healthy foundation can pave the road for a happy and long life ahead.
At Veterinary Care Clinic, we believe that solid foundation starts with a comprehensive exam and effective preventive care medicine. Regardless of if this is your first pet or if you are an experienced pet owner, we can discuss what options would be best for the present and for the future of your pet. We are a strong believer in preventive care since we believe a healthy, long life is the result of finding the issues before they become a problem.
Contact us today and make an appointment for your new family member. Let us help your new puppy or kitten get off to a good start towards a long life.
Please don’t forget to bring any records that you might have for your new friend with you to your first appointment.
Geriatric Care or Senior Pet Care
Preventative medicine is important when our pets are young, but as our pets age, and become prone to certain aging and disease processes, regular biannual exams and blood work become even more critical.
Our 4-legged friends age a lot faster than we do. In the past, we thought our pets aged 7 times faster than humans but now, based on new studies, we know that our pets age much faster in the first few years of their lives. For example, based on one 2020 study, a 4 year-old dog would be equal to a 52 year-old human and a 9 year-old dog is similar to a 67 year-old person with variations according to dog breed and size. Therefore, it is in the best interest of our senior pets to have regular biannual exams to stay on top of the changes that are occurring in their bodies as they age. We believe wellness exams and screening bloodwork are the most basic and effective way to be sure they stay as healthy as they can for as long as possible.
Please contact us to make an appointment for your senior pet’s wellness exam.
Pain Management
We love our pets and seeing them painful is one of the worst experiences we can have during our relationship with them. With today’s longer life expectancy of our furry friends, unfortunately it is not uncommon for pets to experience pain at some stage of their lives. In addition to that, injuries, trauma and, sometimes, needed medical procedures can be the cause of pain for our family pets as well.
At Veterinary Care Clinic our goal is to manage the pain and painful situations head on before they can cause major discomfort for our four-legged friends. We use different medications and modalities, such as laser therapy, to manage the pain as fast as we can. Also, our goal with managing pain during uncomfortable medical procedures is to prevent the pain from happening by using medications before, during and after.
If you have any concerns that your pet might be in pain or have ever had questions about whether your pet is experiencing pain or not, please give us a call to make an appointment for a comprehensive exam and let’s discuss what we can do to keep your friend as happy as possible.
Laser Therapy
We are proud to announce we are now offering laser therapy, an innovative new way to treat pain and inflammation in pets. Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects such as improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. Multiple studies have shown laser therapy can help with a variety of problems including arthritis, joint pain, ligament sprains, muscle strains, dog/cat bites, feline acne/asthma, hotspots, post trauma/surgery pain, hip dysplasia, lick granulomas and snake/bug bites.
Weight Management and Nutritional Counseling
Veterinary Care Clinic of Smokey Point offers nutritional counseling for pet owners of Marysville, WA and surrounding communities. If you have any questions about your pet’s diet or would like more information about your pet’s nutritional needs, please contact us today. We can set up a nutrition plan for your pet.
Obesity is a common problem among pets, as it can be easy to overfeed a cute dog or cat that knows how to beg. Being overweight is a serious problem for animals, and can cause real health problems. With proper diet and exercise, all pets should be able to meet their dietary needs and stay within a healthy weight range.
Oral Care and Dentistry
Do you know that about 80% of dogs and 70% of cats by the age 3 have some form of dental or gum disease? Nowadays, our 4-legged furry friends are living longer, therefore, their oral health becomes more crucial in having a good quality of life for the length of their life.
With gums being very rich in blood supply, all the inflammation and infection along the gumline and around the teeth can be a source of local and systemic infection for our companion pets.
Due to the importance of dental care, we perform regular oral health evaluations as a part of our patients’ biannual wellness exam. In addition, we recommend yearly teeth cleaning whenever it is possible. During the teeth cleaning procedure, not only are all the teeth cleaned and polished, but also we have the opportunity to perform a complete oral exam and take digital dental x-rays to find out if there are any issues hiding beneath the surface of the gumline or around the tooth root which otherwise would go undetected.
Please contact us to schedule your pet’s oral exam today.
Digital Dental Radiography (X-ray)
At Veterinary Care Clinic of Smokey Point in Marysville, WA , we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body’s organs.
In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pets’ body that we otherwise could not see. It is a valuable diagnostic tool that helps veterinarians detect and prevent illness.
Digital X-rays
At Veterinary Care Clinic in Marysville, WA , we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Digital radiography (X-rays) is an advanced diagnostic tool which allows us to visualize musculoskeletal structures as well as the internal organs of your pet’s body in an entirely non-invasive way. In the digital form, X-rays allow us to create images of the body more accurately and within a shorter amount of time which ultimately translates to less stress for your furry friend during the process. It also allows us to transfer these images to a certified radiologist for a second opinion, when needed, as fast as possible, in many cases within one working day.
In other words, the use of digital radiography gives us an additional diagnostic tool which assists us to help your pet in a timely manner and with a higher quality of care in times of need.
Give us a call and make an appointment if you believe your pet is in need of an x-ray.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a quick and overall painless diagnostic procedure which can reveal valuable information about the condition of internal organs which may go undetected with any other diagnostic tool. Ultrasound uses sound waves to allow us to see live images from inside your pet’s body with no side effects or damage to internal organs. It can also allow us to take necessary samples of suspected abnormal tissues to make a definitive diagnosis when it is needed.
We are pleased to be able to offer ultrasound services along with all of our other diagnostic tools, to find answers as quickly as possible to help your pets during a time of illness. The quicker we can find the problem, the faster we can help your furry friends get back to their happy and healthy lives.
Please contact us if you believe your pet needs an appointment.
In-House Laboratory
We are very proud of our laboratory. We are able to perform many diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently in it. We can do many simple tests but are also able to offer some more complex ones, too! We are able to run heartworm tests, leukemia and FIV tests, and full blood work for those who are interested in it. There are also many other tests we offer our patients.
The best part of being able to run laboratory tests in our hospital is that we can diagnose your pets much sooner than if we had to send the blood work out to another laboratory. Whenever your pets are not feeling well, we can offer you results and a diagnosis in minutes instead of making you wait a day (or more) for the results.
Surgery
At Veterinary Care Clinic we understand that anesthetic procedures and surgeries can cause worry for some of us and we understand these procedures have to be done right. Our doctors and trained staff have many years of experience to be able to offer your pet the best care they deserve while they are going through any anesthetic and/or surgical procedure.
We offer many different soft tissue procedures from routine ovariohysterectomies (OVH for short, otherwise known as a spay) for female pets, neuters for males, mass removals, wound and abscess repairs to more complicated procedures such as GI foreign body removals, splenectomies, cystotomies and amputations.
We use the latest anesthetic monitoring systems to do our best to ensure the safety of your pet while they are undergoing any anesthetic and/or surgical procedure. In addition, we use pain medications at different stages of the procedures to be sure our furry friends stay as comfortable as possible.
Contact us for a consultation for any anesthetic or surgical procedure which your family pet may need.
Pharmacy
It is our goal to provide you with complete veterinary care in a professional and accessible atmosphere. That is why we offer a fully stocked pharmacy to fill your pets’ prescription needs.
Having an on-site pharmacy provides you with a more convenient way to get your pets’ medication. We hope that this will save you time and ultimately enhance your experience with us.
Hospice and Euthanasia
Saying goodbye to a family pet is never easy, regardless of whether it is the first time or if you have gone through it before. The process can be emotionally and mentally draining. We don’t want you to feel alone during this difficult time and we promise to do everything we can to make the process as tolerable as possible for you and for your loving friend.
Knowing when the time is right can be a difficult choice. There are many factors that go into deciding when to let go and how long to hold on. This is a personal decision which differs from one family to another, but unfortunately, many pet owners are inevitably faced with making that tough decision and we want you to know that we will be there alongside you to aid in any way we can.
We have many different services with different options and if you have any special requests, please let us know and we can assure you that we will do our best to accommodate them. Dealing with the end of a pet’s life is never easy, but we want to do whatever we can to make the process less difficult.
Health Certificates
If you want to travel internationally with your pet, you need to plan ahead. Since each country is different, you will have to contact the embassy or consulate where you are going to find out what you need to do.
Though every country has different requirements, most require a health certificate that is done by a USDA-accredited veterinarian. Luckily, we have a USDA-accredited veterinarian. If you are not a client, you need to make sure you bring your pets’ records in with you to the examination.
You will always need a health certificate and proof of vaccination. You may also need a microchip and blood tests. Many countries require that your pet get treated for parasites prior to travel. You may also need certificates for the airplane ride.
Since each country is different and we can’t stay up to date will all of the changes in each one, it is important that you call ahead and know what you need. Then, we will make sure that your pet is all ready to go!
Parasite Prevention
The idea of your pet being infested with parasites is a disturbing thought, but it’s also a medical issue that can have serious consequences if not properly dealt with or prevented. Parasites pose a variety of health issues for our pets, who can be very susceptible to certain parasites depending on age, region, and other factors.
At Veterinary Care Clinic of Smokey Point, we emphasize the importance of preventing parasites. Through preventative measures, you can successfully protect your pet. Pets that are not protected often develop parasites, leading to serious problems for them and their owners.
Microchipping
At Veterinary Care Clinic of Smokey Point, we are happy to offer microchipping. Every year, thousands and thousands of pets go missing. Not knowing where your pet is or how to bring them back can be a helpless, hopeless feeling. It’s a tragedy that happens all too often.
But there is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure your pet’s safety and retrieval should he or she ever become lost. Microchipping is a standard procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your pet’s fur. It is a painless and relatively fast procedure and is completely safe.
Behavior Management
We offer solutions for a variety of behavioral issues that pet owners are faced with. Behavioral problems can be challenging and frustrating for both pets and pet owners, so it is our goal to work with you towards a solution.
There are many behaviors that can be negative or destructive, and many pet owners feel helpless in bringing peace to their home. We want you to know that we are here to help, and that undesirable behaviors can be corrected.
Rehabilitation Therapy
If your dog has recently had surgery or been injured, one of the best ways to improve muscle mass and hasten your pets’ recovery is with physical therapy. Our knowledgeable staff can direct you in providing safe, muscle building exercises for your pet. These exercises may range from simple sit-to-stands to more progressive activities targeting specific muscles or groups of muscles. Whether your pet has had surgery to repair a cruciate ligament and requires rehabilitation therapy, requires passive range of motion after a back injury, or needs specific stretches for muscle sprains and strains, our staff is ready to work with you to develop a physical therapy program for your pets’ recovery.
